Competitions

The National Smooth Dancers offers opportunities for those competitively inclined. The contests take relatively little dance time away from the attendees, and there is never an additional fee to compete. The major competitions occur during the annual convention over Labor Day weekend; the sanctioning body is the Dance Rules Committee. Regulations governing these contests are in the Dance Rules document, most recently revised for 2018, with only minor changes for 2021.

The Bakersfield Chapter also holds competitions at their mini Convention in March. The Bakersfield Chapter regulates these events itself, since they do not choose to apply for sanctioning by the Dance Rules Committee.

Individual chapters sometimes hold dance contests at their own parties. These are usually fun events, like Jack and Jills, or perhaps a single-dance competition.
