The Gavel Club members are all current and past chapter
presidents in the National Smooth Dancers. They meet
every year at the annual convention to socialize and discuss
topics of mutual interest.
A function of the Gavel Club is to select among nominees to
receive the Gavel Award. This award recognizes outstanding
service to National Smooth Dancers as a whole, not just to a
single chapter. Any member of National Smooth Dancers may
nominate someone, not necessarily from his own chapter, by
sending the nomination to the Gavel Club Chair in writing,
saying in detail why the person should receive the award.
